Centennial Resource Development, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDEV) is currently seeking an Operations Geologist to be an integrated member of the Geoscience Department assuming Geosteering and various operations geology duties. Reporting to the Operations Geology Manager, the Operations Geologist will support the operations geology needs of the Delaware Basin development program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Geosteering of horizontal wells and well to well correlations in unconventional plays with a creative problem-solving mindset and the ability to successfully work in multi-disciplinary teams.


General responsibilities include:

  • Operations geologist is an integrated member of the development and operational geology team having a close working relationship with the project geologists, project geophysicist and geotechnical staff along with the drilling team and all other technical and corporate groups
  • Responsible for Geosteering of our wells in the Delaware Basin, including picking casing points, KOP’s, landing the curves in the target formation and executing the steering of the horizontal portion of the well with a corporate goal of 95% of the lateral in the identified target zone
  • Prepare pre and post-drill materials; prepare geoprogs, type logs/sections and structure/isopach maps, QC survey plats/geoprogs/directional plans/permits to ensure consistent plans for the well prior to spud, post-drill materials include final steering profile, log filing, formation top picking and updating of structure/isopach maps along with preparing lateral profile displays and other review materials as required
  • Correlate offset well logs and regional structure maps to a geologic model for the well prior to drilling the well. This includes working with the project geologist and geophysicist to create the best plan and set of expectations for drilling the well
  • Work closely with mud loggers/wellsite geologist and drilling engineers to maximize successful steering of horizontal wells
  • Maintain open lines of communication with the drilling engineers and geotechnical team and relay important formation information to help improve drilling efficiencies along with monitoring drilling operations to help improve the company’s understanding of the subsurface through integration of drilling parameters and geologic information
  • Participation in team and corporate level technical reviews


Knowledge and Skills include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology
  • 2-5 years of relevant industry experience, preferably with an operator with an active development program
  • Strong geosteering background in unconventional plays
  • Short course/continuing education training in petrophysics, stratigraphy, and other relevant topics a plus
  • Experience in Petra is a plus
  • Creative out of the box thinker who is self-motivated and also works well in a dynamic team environment, often working with members of various other disciplines
